BOOTY POPPIN!! Contractions...Ready and Awaiting the Prince. Updated with results :)

What, you say, is inside the wrinkled up Target bag that is sitting on our classroom couch??

Here's a hint.

Did you guess???

How much fun do you think the Prince will have with this in the morning?

Inside the balloon he will find the two words that create the contraction written on the outside of the balloon! Booty Poppin', here we come....tee hee hee!

I found the very cute idea on the blog You Can Make The Blog Shine Anytime!

HERE ARE THE RESULTS! SUCCESS!!

We had some STRONG! balloons. The Prince decided he needed booty backup. Thank you, Mr. Pencil.

Prior to popping the Prince had to identify the two words that made up the contraction written on the outside of the balloon. Then POP! and check his answer :)

This activity could be recreated for tons of lessons; addition, subtraction, multiplication, word unscramble, identifying nouns/verbs/adjectives. You get the point. In our house fun while learning is very important.

Banana Nut Pancakes for Dinner? YES. PLEASE.

Happy Sunday to ya!

Last night I was hungry, but didn't feel like I wanted anything...does that make any sense? I decided on pancakes, but I'm not the type of girl that likes a plain pancake...I want substance! I also dream of the banana nut pancakes from The Breakfast Club on Pine Street in O-town...but they have wheat.

So do you get where I'm going with this...GLUTEN FREE BANANA NUT PANCAKES, INDEED!

***Okay, okay make 'em with wheat flour, if you must, just make them!

1 cup Gluten Free Bisquick
1/2 cup rolled oats (I used GF, of course)
1/4 crushed walnuts (or pecans)
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 TBS sugar (or substitute)
2 medium bananas
1 cup milk (I used soy or did I use almond?)
1 egg
1 tsp almond extract
1 tsp butter extract
spray butter/oil for cooking

In a bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients. Mash 1 banana; in a second bowl mix mashed banana with milk, egg, almond and butter extract. Pour liquid ingredients into dry ingredients, mix until smooth. Dice remaining banana and stir into batter. Warm skillet over medium heat; coat with cooking spray. Measure about 1/4 cup batter (or whatever size you want!); pour into skillet. Cook about 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.....YUM!

**alternate version that we also enjoy...replace bananas with 1 cup of blueberries and diced strawberries to batter***

**recipe adapted from a recipe I saw ,fruit and nut pancakes. in SELF magazine.

For The Love of Instagram....

Pop Rocks, a blog I LOVE and a Future Math Lesson/Craft

I recently stumbled onto a blog that has the cutest ideas, EVER!!! I mean cute inexpensive or FREE things that even I can recreate. One cute idea is to create a Valentine's area in your home....so here is my recreation:

So head on over and check out Eighteen25! Seriously it is a fabulous blog with fantabulous ideas!

Next:

I have mentioned teachers pay teachers before, but a brief recap: It is a site where teachers sell unit lessons and there are some CUTE! ones. I purchased one on Pop Rocks for like $4 and it included 5 or 6 separate lessons on POP ROCKS! The Prince had never had Pop Rocks before and I found a three pack for $1 at the Dollar Tree. We had a blast! So if you are interested in buying this cute unit click HERE!

Here are a couple of pictures from this fun lesson:

This is one CrAzY pop rocks guy and the Prince loves him, hahahahaha! Ours is a bit different than the one in the lesson, you may like hers better...;?

Finally:

While the Prince was creating the pop rocks guy I thought I would get a jump on Monday's math lesson, so I decided to created double digit addition and subtraction ice cream cones... I must say I get tickled when I come up with my own ideas...:)!

So anywho...this is the addition one...I'll post the finished products next week after the Prince completes the problems and glues them together.

I'm off and running to drop my Prince off at PE and Art and then I will hit the grocery stores..later this evening is date night... Is it super crazy that we are thinking of going to the gym for date night???
Yes, it is.
I know.
But that is what we are thinking.
 HA!

Happy FRIDAY!!!

Oh. So. Cute. Projects with a dash of Math

In the blog world there is some type of rule about posting more than once per day...but, I've not posted in a while and I have lots to post and all of our lessons are done for the day and the hubby is out of town tonight, so there is no formal dinner to cook and heck, I want to post more than once today...so there!! (** insert picture of me sticking out my tongue!)

On with the crime of the blog world....post #2 on the same day and who knows I may even post three times today. I've been to jail before....no biggie. (***hmmm, I wonder how many folks are wondering about the validity of that last comment???)

ENOUGH rambling already! WHEW, I'm out of breath. Here's the post:

Every thing is better when it's cute, right? When I saw these two projects via The First Grade Parade blog and Step Into Second Grade's facebook page, I knew they would be recreated at the Sharp Academy and the turned out so adorable.

Check these cuties out! They can easily be adapted to whichever math concept you are currently working on.

Happy Wednesday to ya!

This picture of Stormee Oso is obviously not a project or a math equation, but she is cute. :)

FLUBBER!!!!!

Science is one of the most enjoyed subjects around this Academy.

So let's make some FLUBBER!!

Here's the recipe we used, adapted from a post on the fabulous Pinterest!

Mixture 1:

3/4 cup warm water

1 cup Elmer's glue

food coloring of choice

Mixture 2:

1 and 1/2 teaspoon Borax (found near the laundry detergent/bleach in stores)

1/2 cup warm water

Stir mixture 1 together in 1 bowl.

Mixture 2 in another bowl.

Make sure both are mixed well.

Pour mixture 1 into mixture 2.

****There is no need to stir the mixture, but you can if you want. It is the chemical reaction that actually makes the flubber. When it is in a glob work it for 2-3 minutes. Initially it feels wet but it eventually dry up to the final product.

LOOK WHAT THE PRINCE MADE:

The Prince continually used the phrase "chemical reaction" and couldn't wait to show his daddy after work. We kept it in a jar with a lid and it was still "workable" when the daddy arrived home.

Now go make yourself some FLUBBER :)

Leavin' on a Jet Plane...

We head outta NM tomorrow and will return on the 14th...so most likely no post until then. I hope you can survive! HA! I am very excited to attend my gma's 90th! birthday party and the Prince is uber excited to stay in a cabin with his Nana, Pap and Uncle Ronnie! I like my brother's girlfriend, so I'm happy Jenny will be there too! Then off to FL we go!

Get ready Florida ladies!! I've got my new camera, so you will be on my blog when I return!! (please don't refuse to hang out with me since I mentioned blog appearances:).

Okay Okay! I want to show a variety of randomness on the post. I will first show you two cute projects created by the Prince and inspired by one of my favorite blogs Step Into Second Grade.

The first was created of reading the book Old Winter.

The second set of photos were created after discussing resolutions and goals. The Daddy around here requested that the Prince make one for him, so the momma decided she didn't wanted to be left out. So, I made one for myself! Check out my goal...set your goal low and you shall achieve...hahahahahahhahaha!

The daddy has to fill in his goal tonight.

Check out the Prince's curly hair on his party guy! The goal is to "get better at soccer!"

The next set of photos are from Chef Prince cooking last night. This peanut loves the kitchen. Last night he was preparing his favorite dish...BANG BANG TOFU. Click the name if you want the recipe, it's originally made with shrimp.

 Tofu Ninja!

What? You ask? Could I possibly put anymore randomness on one post???? Why, yes I can. hehehe.

You know those times when you look at your kiddos, hubby (or pets..they are super cute too!) and you just want to capture those moments forever? I've had a few of those lately...so I grabbed the camera and all though hubby gives me a hard time for the plethora of pictures I take...it makes me happy. So the next series are just pictures that make my heart smile.

Is Willow Smith singing in anyone else's head?

Not sure this is the way to get better at soccer :?

This is what the Daddy looks like when we arrives home from work!

This is what he looks like about 3.5 minutes later...hahahahaha! The Prince and I are a bit intense!

I just love (okay, not so much) this forced smile stage! Plus if you notice they are in the middle of playing the Wii....but that doesn't stop this photo snappin' momma! hahahaha!

The Daddy is a NY Giants fan...the Prince is a Dallas Cowboys fan...Can you tell how the Daddy feels about this?? HA! BOYS!

Have a good night everyone! We are up at 5am to catch that jet plane! Guess I should pack.
